I downloaded the Staroffice 8 beta from Sun Microsystems last week. It looks like they have come a long way in improving the user interface using native controls, I think you could trick a lot of people into thinking it was Microsoft Word finally.
Here's a screen shot of version 8 beta:
The user interface upgrades were much needed, older versions of Star Office and Open Office, looked a lot like Windows 95! And I still remember the early versions of Star Office, that took over your screen and added their own Start Menu!
StarOffice 8 Beta looks like Microsoft Word was first published on February 25, 2005.

I can only hope that these changes make it to openoffice.

I am an old man trying to learn GMAIL.
However I could not resist loading today
the free STAR OFFICE 8 from Google.
I might get into trouble with older
systems.
I am experiencing a stopper with G MAIL.
When I review SENT GMAILS they come out
double spaced with chopped up sentences.
When I am in the COMPOSE mode they appear to be singled spaces and fairly
organized for the typing of an old man.
Can anyone give me a LIVE PERSON or
HELP DESK PHONE NUMBER for GOOGLE.
